Blyth in Northumberland is preparing for a week-long Halloween celebration, culminating in two firework displays at Mermaid Car Park on Friday, October 30.
Week of spooky activities planned
Blyth Town Council is organising the events as part of Blyth Celebrates, with a programme of free family activities running throughout half term. The Halloween celebrations at the Market Pavilion will combine traditional spooky fun with craft activities, allowing children and families to drop in and take part in arts and crafts.
A giant spooky creation will also take shape during the week, with families encouraged to help build and decorate it. On Friday, October 30, a community parade featuring costumed dancers, music and a themed procession will take place around the Marketplace at 3pm.
Two firework displays for families
This year, Blyth Town Council has introduced two separate firework displays at Mermaid Car Park, designed to make the event more accessible to families and help reduce congestion. The first display will take place at 6pm and will feature low-noise fireworks, making it suitable for young children, people with sensory difficulties and those who prefer a quieter experience.
Visitors can enjoy a funfair, food stalls and a spooky disco with Halloween characters from 4pm outside the Dave Stephens area. Food traders will serve doughnuts, fried chicken, pizza and hot chocolate.
Grand finale
The second display will begin at 7.30pm, featuring a spectacular firework show to bring Halloween night in Blyth to a close.
