Alton Towers has launched a Minecraft-themed event for summer 2026, and we took two children along to see if it lives up to the hype. The Minecraft Meet the Mobs event runs daily across the school holidays and is included in the standard admission price.
What is the Minecraft Meet the Mobs event?
The event features a Mob Trail, described as a first-of-its-kind in the UK, where visitors can meet characters from the Minecraft virtual world. The main hub is located at Fountain Square, near the historic Towers, which is the furthest point from the main entrance. Families can pick up a trail card here and hunt for six baby Mobs around the park, getting stamps on their card, then return for an in-game reward.
Meet and greets and installations
At the hub, meet and greets with larger-than-life characters like Chicken Jockey, Iron Golem, and Creeper run every 15 minutes from 10:30am to 5:15pm. There are also Minecraft-themed installations, flags, and even frog statues turned into Mobs. Merchandise and a TNT popcorn stall are available, with popcorn priced at £6 for small and £9 for large.
The kid verdict
Our six-year-old loved the trail, meeting baby Mobs like the chick and panda, and posing for photos. He was so enthusiastic that when asked about it at home, he replied: "Can we go again?" The nearly-11-year-old thought he was too cool but enjoyed a water-squirting installation.
The mum verdict
As a parent, I found the event well thought out, with no hidden charges for the trail. It encouraged us to explore parts of the park we'd never seen, like the Sky Ride cable cars, and gave younger kids something exciting beyond CBeebies Land.
When is it on and how much?
The event runs daily until August 28, 2026, and is included in regular admission. Day tickets are from £35 per person when booked online in advance, with cheaper rates if booked more than a week ahead. Children under 90cm go free.
