A woman was left 'shaking' after buying a designer dress from a charity shop for just £20, only to discover it was worth thousands. Vanessa Nagel, who posts on TikTok as @mycuteassfinds, found a Gucci dress at a thrift store and immediately recognised it as a rare piece.
'I don't know what to say. I'm shaking. I don't think, I know that we just found a Gucci dress, and I believe it's Gucci x Tom Ford, specifically 1998,' she said. The dress, a plain 'little black dress' with leather straps and Gucci buckles, was confirmed to be genuine by its label, which stated it was made in Italy and required professional dry cleaning.
Vanessa paid just $25.99 (£19.28) for the dress, according to Newsweek. Similar versions of the dress are selling secondhand online for up to $4,200 (£3,114.46). She described the find as a 'piece of history' and emphasised the importance of sustainable shopping.
Reactions to her discovery were mixed. One critic said, 'I do not understand designer fashion...like, it's just a black dress.' Another argued, 'The fit, stitchings, little details, fabrics - there's a lot of differences to this dress and the ones you can buy at Zara.' A supporter praised her for spotting the dress, calling it a 'great find'.
Thrift store shopping offers the chance to find high-quality, unique items at a fraction of their original cost, with the added benefit of sustainability. Vanessa's other notable thrift finds include a Barbie Miu Miu dress and a Balenciaga city bag.
