Zoe, who posts on TikTok as @zoescharitytreasures, picked up a pair of earrings for £4.50 at the Age UK shop in Failsworth, Greater Manchester, and later had them confirmed as genuine Chanel. Age UK charity shops donate their proceeds to helping elderly people in society.
When she first saw the earrings, she thought they were "tacky," but her curiosity got the better of her and she wanted to check whether they were something special. She said she was "internally screaming" at the prospect that the earrings she picked up on a whim could be real Chanel with a hefty value.
Stamps and resale value
The earrings had stamps all over the back, which can indicate authenticity. "They are very clean-cut stamps," she said, so it made her think they might be the real deal. She was "truly gobsmacked" if they were genuine.
Zoe posted a screenshot from the website 1st Dibs showing the same earrings had sold for £1,206.05. That meant she would have made over £1,200 profit if the pair she bought were authentic.
Authentication and reaction
In the comments, one person told her she "smashed it" and claimed they were a really "good find," especially at such a reasonable price tag. In another video, Zoe showed she had sent the earrings off to be authenticated, but said it would take a while for the results to come back.
"I don't have an answer for anyone, yet haha, they were sent off so just waiting for results. It can take a while," she explained.
The verdict
Later, she returned with the "answer whether they were real or fake."
"I am happy to say that my earrings are indeed real," she said. She was grateful for having a good eye for designer items because there had been many naysayers in the comments when she put them on Facebook, with some telling her there was no way they were real.
