Stormzy performed tracks from his latest album This Is What I Mean at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London on Tuesday, in a specially recorded show for Amazon Music +44. The 29-year-old rapper entertained a star-studded audience including Cat Burns and Gabrielle.
Donning a burgundy ribbed tracksuit with alabaster trainers and a gold watch, Stormzy was joined on stage by London soul singer Debbie. The duo showcased their vocal skills before the rapper sat down with DJ Jazzie B and broadcaster Julie Adenuga for an onstage discussion about his latest record.
Last month, Stormzy admitted he felt 'overwhelmed' as he returned to the music industry after a two-year break. Speaking to Louis Theroux on his new interview series, the star explained he had 'cried' and felt 'super depressed' while trying to become the best artist. He said he would 'crash out' and become 'withdrawn and reclusive', staying at home and smoking a lot of weed.
According to The Mirror, Stormzy went through a period when he wasn't in the 'best mind space' due to balancing being 'the greatest artist' with family life and being a role model. 'I felt overwhelmed, which was new to me. I would break down, it was super heavy,' he added.
Elsewhere in the interview, Stormzy reflected on his split from ex-girlfriend Maya Jama, admitting to making mistakes during their four-year relationship but revealing he has since grown. The couple split in 2019, with Stormzy previously confessing to 'disrespecting' and being 'inconsiderate' towards her.
