Royal Mint Launches Sustainable Jewellery Brand 886 with Orrery Collection

The Royal Mint, Britain's oldest coinmaker, has expanded into jewellery with the launch of 886 by The Royal Mint in 2022. The brand's name references the year the Mint first produced coins for the monarch, and it combines centuries of coin-making expertise with sustainable craftsmanship.

The new Orrery collection draws inspiration from celestial movements, featuring pieces crafted from sustainable gold recovered from e-waste and silver recovered from end-of-life medical X-ray films. The range includes necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings, pendants and chokers, all embodying discreet luxury and timeless elegance.

Since its launch, 886 has collaborated with British artists and designers, including Stella McCartney and Elton John, and has been worn by celebrities such as Lily Allen, James Norton, Raffey Cassidy, Ruth Wilson, Cora Corre and Olivia Dean.

Dominic Jones, Creative Director at 886, says: “The Royal Mint was created as a trusted place to store value through materials; 886 explores the idea of jewellery as a wearable asset, in beautiful, classic pieces that will retain their value for multiple generations.”
