Guy Fieri's BBQ Tip to Elevate Your Burgers Instantly

BBQ season has arrived, and celebrity chef Guy Fieri has shared his top grilling advice, emphasizing that perfect burgers come down to one essential factor: heat control.

The Importance of Heat Control

In an interview with Tasting Table, Fieri provided a comprehensive breakdown of burger cooking, from patty to bun. He supports the widely held view that a higher fat content in beef produces the best burgers, favoring an 80/20 ratio. However, the real expertise lies in cooking, and on a BBQ, it's all about heat management.

Fieri maintains that the secret to a truly great burger lies entirely in controlling the heat, though techniques may vary depending on patty thickness and preferred doneness. He said: "For grilling, you want to start over direct heat and then move to indirect if you're cooking a thicker burger."

He added: "The key is high heat. Get it hot enough to sear and build flavour, but not so hot that you're burning it. The hotter the surface, within reason, the better the result."

Mastering the Cheese

When it comes to cheese, Fieri offers guidance to achieve the perfect finish without burning or failing to melt it. He recommends steaming the cheese using a dome. He explained: "It helps the heat penetrate and melt the cheese without drying it out ... add a splash of water and cover it, the steam gets in there and gives you that smooth, melty cheese finish."

To introduce more flavour, consider swapping traditional yellow cheese slices for halloumi, mozzarella, or brie, adding a new dimension to your upgraded BBQ burgers.
