Newcastle's historic Grainger Market was transformed into a catwalk on Saturday for a fashion show held as part of the British Fashion Council's new nationwide Fashion Britain programme.
The event, organised in collaboration with Newcastle City Council, highlighted winning designs from Future Heritage, Eldon Square's 50th-anniversary initiative created in partnership with Newcastle College and Fenwick Newcastle.
Student designs and local heritage
Following an industry brief, 80 Newcastle College students created original fashion and textile designs inspired by Newcastle's heritage, with the winners seeing their work brought to life on the runway.
The show also featured an exclusive catwalk presentation from award-winning Newcastle designer and Newcastle College University Centre alumnus Lamin Gibba, founder of high-end streetwear label Jerry J Clothing.
North East represented on the runway
The North East was well represented on the catwalk, with models sporting garments bearing the words "shy bairns get nowt". Some designs featured landmarks such as the Angel of the North and Tyne Bridge, while one model wore a skirt displaying the Newcastle Chronicle.
Nationwide programme
Created by the British Fashion Council, Fashion Britain is a landmark programme designed to celebrate and strengthen British fashion beyond London. Newcastle is one of seven UK cities taking part in a nationwide programme of more than 1,000 events throughout September.
