A mother who cannot eat without multiple sachets of McDonald's curry sauce has gone to extreme lengths to maintain access to the sauce while on holiday in Benidorm, Spain.
Curry Sauce Addiction
Sophie Sant, a 21-year-old from Tipton, West Midlands, downs 14 pints of McDonald's curry sauce every month. She 'smuggled' 100 pots on her five-night break to Benidorm with her partner and daughter, as she 'can't eat without it'. The sun bed business owner was 'petrified' that she would not be permitted to pack the 100 25ml sachets in her checked baggage, fearing it would 'destroy' her holiday and force her to return home early.
History of the Habit
Sophie first sampled curry sauce with her very first McDonald's Happy Meal at just 12 months old. Now, she point-blank refuses to eat anything without it. She purchases an entire box containing 336 sachets for £33.60, and the mum-of-one says she has at least five with every meal and pops 10 in her handbag whenever she dines out. Excluding breakfast, if Sophie has two meals a day, that is 10 sachets daily—an estimated 310 sachets consumed every month, or thousands annually. At 25ml per sachet, she consumes around 7.8 litres or 14 pints of curry sauce monthly.
TikTok Smuggling Attempt
Taking to TikTok, Sophie posted footage of herself placing the sachets into her suitcase with the caption: 'watch me (try to) smuggle 100 McDonald's curry sauces to Benidorm'. In the clip, she says, 'I am very much so addicted to McDonald's curry sauce with every meal. I'm physically unable to spend five nights without it'. She adds, 'in this process [my boyfriend] did lose a pair of trainers. He doesn't know yet but he's not bringing them'. Later, she carefully places the sachets into two plastic bags before firmly putting them into her suitcase.
Social Media Reaction
Numerous users flocked to the comments to share their amusement. One user said: 'I can't deal with you and this sauce.' Another commented: 'This is me but with mint sauce and sour cream. Has to come with me.' A third noted: 'This made me laugh so much.' A fourth declared: 'I'm howling. I cannot wait to see you eating in Benidorm.'
Exclusive to McDonald's
The parent says she will only eat curry sauce from McDonald's because she has tried other ones which taste 'horrible'. Sophie revealed she purchases the curry sauce directly from the McDonald's outlet itself, much to the entertainment of staff. Her grandad first started buying her the boxes as presents as a child until he passed away in 2021. Now, even her daughter won't eat a thing without it.
Holiday Fears
Sophie said: 'I'm pretty addicted to curry sauce. I'd come home [if I couldn't bring the curry sauce]. It would just ruin my trip. This is my first time going abroad. My friends have had to deal with a few breakdowns over it really just in case but everyone's saying they will let me take it so I should get over there with it fine. I [was] scared for my life in case they took it. I just reassured myself I'll be absolutely fine but I was nervous. I worked it out to needing 140 so I got my box of curry sauce out from under my bed and started counting out all the sauces and there were only 100 left. I ordered a McDonald's and ordered more curry sauce so I am going to try and squeeze some more in there.'
