Netflix has unveiled a new true crime documentary series, Instadocs, designed to investigate topical cases almost as they unfold in real time. The series, executive produced by Josh Tyrangiel, Connor Schell, and showrunner Steve Yaccino, promises to tackle a wide range of gripping current events and cultural moments.
The debut episode, titled Instadocs: Alex Murdaugh, Unconvicted, focuses on the South Carolina lawyer whose double-murder conviction was overturned by the South Carolina Supreme Court on 13 May 2026. The ruling came after allegations that former court clerk Becky Hill interfered with the jury during the trial, claims she has repeatedly denied.
The 30-minute documentary features interviews with South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, the creators of Trial Watchers, and jurors including Myra Crosby, whose dismissal from the jury contributed to questions surrounding Becky's conduct. Alex Murdaugh, a fourth-generation lawyer, had been convicted in 2023 for the murders of his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul, and separately pleaded guilty to nearly two dozen financial crimes.
Becky Hill resigned as Colleton County Clerk of Court in March 2024, citing a desire for more family time. Following the overturning of Alex's murder convictions, he has been granted a new trial, which could take place within the next year. The series is now available to stream on Netflix.
