Charlie Sheen has publicly reached out to his former co-star Jon Cryer, expressing a desire to reconnect following his participation in the upcoming Netflix documentary aka Charlie Sheen. Sheen and Cryer starred together on the hit sitcom Two and a Half Men from 2003 until Sheen's dismissal in 2011.
In an interview with People, Sheen explained that he did not personally invite Cryer to take part in the documentary because he lacked his current contact details. Instead, the director approached Cryer, who contributed candidly. Sheen said he wrote to Cryer thanking him for his honest and compassionate remarks but has yet to receive a reply, speculating he may have used an outdated number.
Sheen was particularly struck by Cryer's insight into his struggles with addiction, noting that Cryer suggested Sheen felt he did not deserve his success. “He nailed that, and I’m so glad he opened that door,” Sheen said, adding that Cryer’s perspective gave him an opportunity for reflection. He described the comments as “really insightful” and “compassionate.”
The documentary also features Sheen's ex-wives Denise Richards and Brooke Mueller, friend Sean Penn, and Two and a Half Men creator Chuck Lorre. Sheen was infamously fired from the show after erratic behaviour and derogatory remarks about Lorre, later replaced by Ashton Kutcher. At his peak, Sheen earned around $1.8 million per episode.
Last year, Cryer addressed a potential reboot on The View, expressing happiness for Sheen's improved wellbeing but hesitancy to work with him again professionally. aka Charlie Sheen streams on Netflix from September 10, coinciding with the release of Sheen's memoir The Book of Sheen on September 9.
