Caroline Flack's mother has said the story behind her daughter's death 'is much darker' than the public realises, ahead of a new Disney+ documentary. The two-part series, 'Caroline Flack: Search For The Truth', features previously unheard voice notes and texts from the late TV presenter, shedding light on her profound emotional turmoil.
The film explores the impact of the assault charge she faced prior to her passing. Flack, best known for presenting Love Island and winning Strictly Come Dancing, took her own life at age 40 in February 2020 after learning prosecutors were pressing ahead with the charge. Her mother, Christine Flack, says in the trailer: 'People think they know what happened to Caroline, but the reality is much darker... I want the truth to come out.'
The trailer shows Flack arriving at magistrates' court accused of assaulting her boyfriend Lewis Burton, and includes online abuse she received. In a voice note, Flack says: 'I'm receiving so much abuse.' Another text reads: 'I don't see any way out of this.' Christine, seen retrieving phones from a wicker box, says the devices 'tell the real story'.
In 2023, the Metropolitan Police apologised to Flack's family for not keeping a record of why they charged her. The Crown Prosecution Service had recommended a caution, but the Met Police appealed and charged her with assault by beating. A coroner ruled in August 2020 that she took her own life after learning of the prosecution.
