Strictly Makes History With New Instant Dance Challenge
Strictly's New Instant Dance Challenge Shakes Up Competition

The glittering world of Strictly Come Dancing is set for a seismic shift as the BBC One flagship show prepares to unveil a groundbreaking new challenge that will test its remaining celebrities and professional dancers like never before.

What Is The Instant Dance Challenge?

Overseen by the show's iconic hosts, Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, the revolutionary 'Instant Dance' format will debut on Saturday, November 29. This dramatic new element will follow the traditional performances from the six remaining couples.

The high-pressure challenge works as follows: each couple will randomly select a dance style from those they have already learned during the competition. After their music is played, they will have a frantic dash to the wardrobe department to find and change into their costumes. The real test begins with the countdown clock, which gives them a mere 10 seconds to decide and plan their entire routine before they must perform it live in front of the judges and a nationwide audience.

Judges' Verdict and High Stakes

Once all six couples have completed their spontaneous performances, the judging panel led by head judge Shirley Ballas will rank them, awarding extra marks based on their performance. The couple that impresses the most will receive a maximum of six additional points, with the scores descending down to one point for the couple that impresses the least.

Shirley Ballas emphasised the significance of this new challenge, stating: 'Instant Dance has the power to change everything for our couples, and will challenge them in ways they have never been challenged before.'

She added: 'With standards so incredibly high this year and the competition so close, there's a lot resting on it. The dance styles, costumes and music might not be revealed until the night, but what we can be sure of right now is that it's going to be a whole lot of fun. I cannot wait!'

Fallout From Shocking Elimination

The announcement of this exciting new challenge comes fresh from Sunday's dramatic results show, which saw what many fans are calling the 'most shocking elimination yet'. The outcome was controversially leaked online ahead of the broadcast, adding to the drama.

Vicky Pattison, the 38-year-old TV personality, became the seventh celebrity to leave the competition after losing the dreaded dance-off against EastEnders star Balvinder Sopal, 46. Both Vicky, with her professional partner Kai Widdrington, 30, and Balvinder, with her partner Julian Caillon, 30, had found themselves at the bottom of the leaderboard after Saturday's performances.

Despite both pairs being in equal danger, the judges' decision to save Balvinder stunned viewers. After both couples performed again, judges Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke all chose to save Balvinder. Craig Revel Horwood, who held the casting vote, confirmed he would have also saved the soap star had his vote been required.

An emotional Vicky told host Tess Daly: 'It was so lovely while it lasted, and I've had the nicest time. I knew this week was a difficult one for me, and I tried my hardest as I have every week. Listen, I didn't think I'd get past week one.'

She paid tribute to her professional partner, saying: 'I'm really honoured to have shared this experience with so many amazing people. Mostly with this fella [Kai] right here. I don't want to sound too cheesy but you've been the best partner a girl can ask for. I'm so sorry I didn't get you to Blackpool but I feel like I've won just by having you as my partner and I'm so grateful.'

Kai responded with equal warmth, gushing: '[Vicky] You are everything that this series is about. Strong, confident, independent - and all that I can say is, I have loved every single second. I'm going to be gutted not coming to Blackpool with you on Monday. But I just want you to know that I feel like I have also won getting you as my partner, and you will live on in Strictly history forever.'

As the competition intensifies towards the coveted Blackpool special, the introduction of the Instant Dance challenge promises to add an unprecedented layer of spontaneity and pressure, potentially reshaping the entire competition in its final crucial weeks.
