Popular Stockport Bar The Cracked Actor Announces Closure After Seven Years
Stockport's The Cracked Actor Bar Announces Closure

The Cracked Actor, a popular bar on Little Underbank in Stockport town centre, has announced it will close for good next month after seven years of operation. Owner Joseph Patten cited a desire to end on a high note and focus on his other ventures, The Bansbee and Holy Diver.

Closure Date and Final Weeks

The bar will remain open for the next two weeks, with its final day open to the public on Saturday, July 11. Patten made the announcement via Instagram, saying the decision took a long time but that some things must end on a high.

Owner's Statement

Patten said: 'The Cracked Actor was my first bar in Stockport and has always weathered the storm. Sadly, these days I have a lot going on. And some things take away from the attention I can pay to my little bar. I want to call time on The Cracked Actor and go out at its height.' He added that the bar 'got me on the map and opened the doors to so much more that came afterwards.'

Recent Vandalism and Community Support

The closure announcement comes just weeks after the bar was forced to shut for a weekend following an 'intentional' attack by yobs on June 12, when windows were smashed with bricks. Patten had appealed for information on social media to catch those responsible. Despite this, he expressed gratitude to customers, many of whom have been visiting since day one. He also thanked his fiancee Amy, without whom he said the bar 'would have closed four years ago.'

Reaction from Patrons

Customers reacted with sadness to the news. One commented: 'This is so sad. Loved what you built there Joe. You should be very proud.' Another said: 'Been one of the best spots in Stockport for years. Some great memories here.' A third added: 'Absolutely gutted. My fave bar on Underbanks. Thank you for creating such a cracking place and good luck with the other places.'

Legacy and Future Focus

Patten noted that when he opened the bar seven years ago, other bar owners called him 'mad for opening anything on that street,' but now the area is 'booming with bars that have come afterwards.' He intends to give his full attention to The Bansbee and Holy Diver, his other popular spots in Stockport.
