Two England football legends have revealed that Strictly Come Dancing contestant Karen Carney has a hidden dancing background, including breakdancing and body popping. The former professional footballer impressed audiences and judges with her Jive to One Way or Another alongside partner Carlos Gu during the first live show, scoring 31 points and topping the leaderboard for the first time in 18 years for a footballer.
Despite her success, Carney admitted feeling out of her comfort zone, saying: 'Everyone did a great job, it's been an amazing show, it's been an honour and I'm really emotional.' However, former teammates Fara Williams and Lianne Sanderson hinted that viewers should look forward to her breakdancing skills in the ballroom.
Speaking before the UEFA Women's Champions League on Disney+, Williams said: 'Kaz used to body pop! ... Kaz can dance! ... She'll fully commit to it, she'll use every minute that she can trying to get her dance routines perfect.' Sanderson added: 'Kaz has always been a good dancer; she can body pop and everything ... I've seen Kaz can move, she can break dance! Spinning on her head and all that.'
The revelations come as Carney's performance earned praise from head judge Shirley Ballas, who called it 'sensational' and the best dance of the night. Williams and Sanderson are part of the broadcasting team for the UEFA Women's Champions League, which kicks off on 7 and 8 October on Disney+.
