Karen Carney has spoken warmly about her Strictly Come Dancing partner Carlos Gu, describing him as a 'soft, gentle soul' after he admitted to being 'self-centred' before their partnership. The former England footballer and Carlos were crowned champions of the 2025 series on Saturday night.
Appearing on BBC Radio 2's The Scott Mills Breakfast Show on Monday, Carney said: 'He's such a soft, gentle soul and I think the absolute world of him... he's incredible and he did a fantastic job. I was so blessed and lucky to have him as my partner. Definitely a friend for life with Mr Gu.'
Carney also revealed she now carries tissues for Carlos, who became emotional during the final. 'Something just sets him off and he gets upset and I have to give him a big cuddle,' she explained.
During Saturday's finale, Carlos credited Carney with changing his life, saying: 'I came to Strictly after competitive life, I was self-centred... [Karen] taught me how to be a kind, humble person, and for the first time, I learnt how to be a team player.'
The pair won the Glitterball trophy after performing a football-inspired Jive to Blondie's 'One Way or Another', earning a perfect score of 40 from the judges.
