Grace Season 6 Returns to ITV with Intriguing New Cases and Sussex Backdrops
The acclaimed ITV crime drama Grace is making a highly anticipated comeback for its sixth season this weekend, promising more suspense and detective work from the beloved character Detective Superintendent Roy Grace, portrayed by John Simm. The series, which first premiered in 2021, has captivated audiences with its gripping narratives set against the picturesque landscapes of East Sussex.
Plot Details and Character Dynamics
In the opening episode, the storyline delves into the aftermath of ACC Cassian Pewe's betrayal, which continues to cast a shadow over East Sussex Police. As the team navigates an anti-corruption enquiry, Roy Grace grapples with trusting intel about his wife Sandy's murder and threats to Bruno's life. Simultaneously, the detectives are thrust into a complex missing persons case involving Eden, the wife of a Brighton property developer, reported missing by her distressed husband.
The ensemble cast reunites for this instalment, with Richie Campbell returning as DI Glenn Branson and Zoë Tapper as Cleo Morey, adding depth to the interpersonal dynamics that fans have come to cherish.
Filming Locations: Brighton and Hove Take Centre Stage
Season six maintains the series' tradition of using Brighton and Hove as its primary filming location, showcasing the coastal city's vibrant charm and surrounding countryside. Key spots include areas near the iconic Royal Pavilion and The Lanes, as well as Brighton Palace Pier. Additional locales such as Devil's Dyke, Ovingdean, and Peacehaven provide diverse backdrops for the unfolding drama.
A standout feature this season is the transformation of Brighton High Street into the German city of Munich through advanced visual effects. Richie Campbell shared at a press Q&A that while he initially hoped to film in Munich, as done in earlier seasons, the team utilised VFX to recreate the setting locally. He remarked, "It's amazing what VFX can do down the Brighton High Street," highlighting the innovative production techniques employed.
Cast Reflections on Filming in Sussex
John Simm expressed his enthusiasm for filming in his hometown, stating, "For me personally, over these five or six years, filming Grace has been a great way for me to discover my hometown now. We've been everywhere. And yeah, it's a fantastic place. A fantastic place to live and a fantastic place to film. It's a character in its own right."
Richie Campbell echoed these sentiments, noting his fondness for the area and the enjoyable filming experiences. He added, "I do love it. We have so much fun when we're filming, and also, like John said, we're just learning about the whole of Sussex. You're seeing various different places. So yeah, I'm a fan." His comments even hinted at a potential move to Brighton, underscoring the location's appeal.

Grace season six premieres on ITV1 and ITVX on Sunday, March 29, at 8pm, offering fans a fresh batch of episodes filled with mystery and character-driven plots.
