Carlos Gu could become the first Asian man in Strictly Come Dancing history to lift the Glitterball trophy, should he and partner Karen Carney win the series. The dancer, who joined the show in 2022, has captivated audiences with his performances alongside former footballer Karen Carney.
During a press conference ahead of Saturday's final, Gu became emotional when asked about the significance of potentially being the first openly gay and first Asian man to win. Carney stepped in to praise her partner, calling him a 'fantastic dancer' and a 'wonderful person'.
The pair currently top the leaderboard with 78 points after scoring 39 for both their semi-final dances. Their Waltz to Whitney Houston's 'One Moment in Time' left both in tears, with Carney noting the emotional weight of the performance.
