Ralph Fiennes delivers a 'magnificent' performance in 'The Return,' a new adaptation of Homer's Odyssey now available to rent or buy on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV. The film, which hit UK cinemas just over a year ago, stars Fiennes as Odysseus and Juliette Binoche as his wife Penelope.
Plot and Setting
'The Return' focuses solely on the King's arrival back on the island of Ithaca after losing all his men on his 10-year journey home from the Trojan War. Washed up naked on the shores, the film retells Odysseus' final battle against the suitor Antinous and the reclaiming of his throne.
Critical Reception
George Simpson, Film & Music Editor, described the film as a 'beautifully captured drama' and praised Fiennes, who got shredded for the role in his 60s, for giving a 'magnificent performance' in this underrated drama with plenty of action. The world premiere of Sir Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' took place on Monday, but reviews remain embargoed until next week.
