Bleecker Burger in London has been crowned the 'World's Best Burger Place' by the organisers of the 'World's 101 Best Steak Restaurants' rankings. Our reviewer visited the London Bridge location to see if the title holds up.
Rankings and Criteria
The rankings judge meat quality, composition, atmosphere, authenticity, consistency, cleanliness, guest experience, sustainability, service quality, and online presence. Bleecker topped the list among 101 burger places worldwide.
Our reviewer, a self-proclaimed burger enthusiast, arrived at 9:30pm on a Monday. The restaurant was quiet initially but saw a surge after 10pm, drawing Gen Z and Millennial crowds post-sports sessions.
First Impressions and Pricing
The interior featured all-encompassing white tiles reminiscent of old public bathrooms, a design choice that divided opinion. The vibe was fast-casual, less fancy than Honest Burgers but more decadent than Five Guys.
Prices were fair: Cheeseburger £10.50, Blue Burger £11.60, Bacon Cheeseburger £11.50, Angry Fries £5.50, Double Chocolate Milkshake £5.95, and a pint at £6.95.
The Burgers: Taste and Texture
Burgers appeared small but the dry-aged beef patty, cooked medium as requested, was described as possibly the best patty ever eaten. The burgers were minimalist: patty, secret sauce, onions, and cheese in the Cheeseburger, plus bacon or blue cheese in variants.
According to the reviewer, 'The taste was 10/10, no notes.' However, portions were noted as small. The sesame buns were exceptionally soft and buttery, but perhaps too soft, compromising structural integrity.
The blue cheese was mellow yet present, and the bacon was thin, crispy, and not overly salty.
Drinks and Overall Experience
The Double Chocolate Milkshake was thick and flavourful but didn't match Five Guys' shakes. The beer was crisp and refreshing. Notably, the reviewer and her husband did not feel overstuffed after the meal, a departure from typical burger experiences.
The reviewer stated, 'For the first time in my life, a burger and fries meal didn't feel unhealthy.' The food left no greasy residue.
Verdict
While the title 'World's Best Burger Place' sets high expectations, the reviewer concluded that Bleecker's unmatched beef patties came close to perfection. However, those seeking fully loaded burgers may be disappointed.
