Fans of the new horror film Weapons, which hits UK cinemas today, are being urged to check out director Zach Cregger's earlier film Barbarian, which has been described as a 'masterpiece'. The 2022 release, starring Bill Skarsgård and Georgina Campbell, currently holds a 92 per cent critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Barbarian follows Tess, who arrives at a rental property only to find it already occupied by a stranger named Keith. Despite initial misgivings, she decides to stay, and the pair soon discover sinister secrets hidden within the house, owned by the unlikeable landlord AJ, played by Justin Long.
The film has garnered a cult following, with one viewer writing: 'Barbarian is a masterpiece. It’s one of the most unique horror films I’ve seen in a very long time. I suggest this movie to everyone I know so at this point I give it a good 11/10.' Another added: 'Truly one of the BEST movies I’ve watched in a long time. It’s rare to see a movie these days that can actually surprise you.'
Barbarian is currently available to stream on Netflix with a subscription, or can be rented from YouTube, Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video for £3.49. Cregger's latest film, Weapons, stars Julia Garner, Benedict Wong, Josh Brolin and June Raphael, and has been dubbed an 'instant classic' in early reviews.
