Filming for the BBC drama Waterloo Road can continue at its Trafford site for another three years, after Trafford Council granted an extension. The permission, which was due to expire next month, has now been extended until the end of June 2029, matching the duration of Warner Bros' lease.
Background and Request
The production moved into the borough last year after Warner Bros secured temporary permission to film at the building and land at 75 Trafford Wharf Road and 9 Waterside. Series 18 and 19 were commissioned together, with filming starting in Trafford in September 2025. The original permission covered a 12-month shoot only.
Warner Bros approached Trafford Council in June to request continued use of the site. Approval has now been granted, allowing filming to proceed until the lease expires.
Filming Schedule and Conditions
Planning documents state that filming will generally run from 8am to either 6pm or 7pm on weekdays. Night filming will be restricted to 10 occasions and must end by 9pm. Weekend filming will be limited to a maximum of five occasions and will be scheduled to avoid clashing with Manchester United home games, reducing impact on local roads.
Warner Bros anticipates an average of 100 to 120 people on site each day, with occasional peaks of up to 160 people on crowd filming days.
