Trina Parks, the former Bond girl who played assassin Thumper alongside Sean Connery in 1971's Diamonds Are Forever, believes the next 007 should trade his licence to kill for a marriage licence. She says the iconic spy should settle down with one woman to reflect the modern world.
Bond should be a one-woman man
Parks, now 79, hopes new franchise chief Amazon MGM will drag the secret agent into the 21st century. She stated: "Of course I would like them to keep the romance in. But perhaps not give him a multitude of partners."
She added: "The script really has to reflect the modern world where women are stronger characters and hold powerful positions."
Women as equals
The actress, who was the first African American to play a Bond girl, said women in upcoming 007 films should not "just roll over" into bed with the spy. "I want this new movie to place women as Bond's equal and address the way the world is," she said.
Parks called for any new Bond girl to be "a match both physically and emotionally" for the secret agent. She wants writer Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders and the new 007 scribe, to include a female character similar to Halle Berry's Jinx in 2002's Die Another Day.
A new Bond for a new generation
Amazon is hunting for a new actor to play Bond after Daniel Craig, and has enlisted casting veteran Nina Gold, who was Oscar-nominated for Hamnet and worked on Game of Thrones, The Crown and The Day of the Jackal.
Actors tipped for the role include Aaron Taylor-Johnson, 36, Callum Turner, 36, and Harris Dickinson, 30.
Parks said: "I don't want the women to just fall into bed with him because he is good-looking. It should be a female who he has got to prove that he is worthy of being her bed partner. Of course audiences want to see seduction and that vintage flavour but the women need to be on an equal footing."
She concluded: "They can reshape the films again for a new generation. Of course you're going to have new and young people, but they need to keep it going."
