Liverpool's city centre was transformed into a gritty Gotham backdrop this week as filming for the highly anticipated sequel, The Batman – Part II, kicked into high gear. The production caused a major stir, thanks to the jaw-dropping first look at its newest villain.
Welsh actor Tom Rhys Harries, known for his roles in White Lines and The Irregulars, was spotted on set in a breathtaking and gruesome prosthetic transformation. He appeared utterly unrecognisable, fully embodying the classic DC Comics nemesis, Clayface.
A Gruesome Spectacle on Set
Harries was seen sporting a horrifyingly detailed makeup job, with his face and hands appearing battered, bloodied, and caked in a thick, mud-like substance. The intricate prosthetics gave the character a monstrous, shapeshifting quality, a faithful and chilling interpretation of the Batman rogue known for his ability to manipulate his form.
The actor was captured in the midst of an intense action sequence, adding to the dramatic spectacle for onlooking fans and photographers. The footage suggests a physically demanding role that will see Clayface as a formidable threat to Robert Pattinson's Dark Knight.
Liverpool Doubles for Gotham
The choice of Liverpool continues director Matt Reeves' vision of a grounded and tangible Gotham City. The city's historic architecture and moody atmosphere provide the perfect stand-in for the crime-ridden streets of Batman's home, much like it did for the first film.
