Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master, an Oscar-nominated psychological drama hailed as one of the greatest films of the 21st century, is leaving Amazon Prime UK at midnight tonight.
Film's Acclaim and Cast
Ranked 24th in the BBC's 100 Greatest Films of the 21st Century, the 2012 film stars Joaquin Phoenix as a World War II Navy veteran struggling to readapt to society. He meets Philip Seymour Hoffman's cult leader, based on Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, who invites him into his movement, The Cause. Phoenix's character soon travels with Hoffman and spreads his teachings.
Anderson has repeatedly confirmed that The Master is his favorite of his own films. The movie received three Oscar nominations: Best Actor for Phoenix, Best Supporting Actor for Hoffman, and Best Supporting Actress for Amy Adams.
Technical Achievement
Shot almost entirely on 65mm, it was the first fictional film to be shot and released in 70mm since 1996's Hamlet.
