Taylor Swift has officially joined the Toy Story franchise, announcing a new original song for the upcoming fifth installment. The 36-year-old singer revealed the news on Instagram tonight, expressing her lifelong adoration for the Disney-Pixar series.
Swift's Emotional Connection to Toy Story
In her post, Swift wrote: 'It's a *Toy* Story. You knew it! My new original song 'I Knew It, I Knew You' for Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 5 will be yours on June 5th. I've always dreamed of getting to write for these characters who I've adored since I was a 5 year old kid watching the first Toy Story movie.'
She added: 'I fell instantly in love with Toy Story 5 when I was lucky enough to see it in its early stages, and I wrote this song as soon as I got home from the screening. Sometimes you just know, right?' The track is available for pre-order now, ahead of the film's release on June 19.
Plot Details for Toy Story 5
The new movie sees Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the other 'traditional' toys finding their purpose under threat when Bonnie—who has inherited Andy's toys—becomes obsessed with a high-tech tablet called Lilypad. This storyline explores the tension between classic toys and modern technology.
Disney first released a clip of Toy Story 5 a year ago, showing a shipment of Buzz Lightyear toys crashed on a deserted island. The Buzz toys must then work together to build a raft to return to Star Command, setting the stage for an adventurous narrative.
Swift's involvement adds a musical dimension to the film, following in the footsteps of previous Toy Story soundtracks that featured iconic songs like 'You've Got a Friend in Me'. Fans can expect the new single to drop just two weeks before the movie hits theaters.
