Sydney Sweeney wants Housemaid sequel

Actress Sydney Sweeney has publicly shared her enthusiasm for revisiting her latest cinematic role, revealing she 'would love' to star in a sequel to the newly released thriller, The Housemaid.

From Page to Screen: Sweeney's Passion for the Project

The 28-year-old star, best known for Euphoria, plays Millie, a live-in housemaid attempting to escape her past, in the film adaptation of Freida McFadden's 2022 novel. Speaking to People magazine, Sweeney, who also served as an executive producer, expressed her deep connection to the source material and her character.

'I was such a huge fan of the books, so I would be just as happy as everyone else being able to see more Housemaids come to life and getting to explore more of Millie,' she enthused. She described Millie as 'spicy' and a 'fighter', adding, 'I love characters like that. I love seeing movies that have just fully embraced female rage.'

On-Screen Chemistry and a 'Seductive Game'

In the film, Sweeney's character works for Nina Winchester, portrayed by Amanda Seyfried, whose seemingly perfect life with husband Andrew (Brandon Sklenar) begins to unravel, placing Millie in a perilous situation. The movie's logline promises a 'seductive game of secrets, scandal and power.'

Director Paul Feig was full of praise for the leading duo's dynamic, telling People their onscreen chemistry is 'through the roof.' 'They are both such powerful talents and work so well off each other that you very quickly get sucked into their onscreen world,' he shared.

Behind the Scenes and a Body Positive Set

Feig also highlighted Sweeney's confident approach, describing her as 'body positive' and unlike other stars who battle insecurity. 'She's very proud of how she looks, and you should be... She would say: "I love women's bodies," and that's so healthy,' Feig told The Times.

The director admitted that filming intimate scenes made him feel 'uncomfortable,' but praised the work of the film's intimacy coordinator, calling such roles 'the greatest thing that's happened in Hollywood.' He emphasised the importance of creating a professional environment, especially for sensitive scenes.

Promoting the film's theatrical release, Sweeney took to Instagram on Friday, engaging her 25.6 million followers with behind-the-scenes photos from the set. The post comes as audiences can now see the thrilling result of this collaborative project in cinemas.
