The eight-part comedy crime drama Sunny Nights, starring Will Forte and D'Arcy Carden, will premiere on ITVX on August 16. The series first aired in Australia at the end of last year.
Plot and Cast
Sunny Nights follows American siblings Martin Marvin (Will Forte) and Vicki (D'Arcy Carden) as they relocate to Australia and start a spray tan business in Sydney. Their venture takes a drastic turn when they become entangled with the wrong people. The synopsis reads: "As Martin and Vicki attempt to turn their company from a start-up operating out of the back of a van into a multi-million-dollar empire, the siblings become tangled up in Sydney's criminal underworld. When a ruthless gangster begins to catch up with them, the two must figure out how to stay alive, out of prison, and in the black."
Alongside Forte and Carden, the cast includes Rachel House, Jessica De Gouw, Miritana Hughes, Ra Chapman, Megan Wilding, and Patrick Brammall.
Fan Reactions
Viewers have shared positive reactions since the series aired. One person said: "This is a thorough series with wisps of Breaking Bad notes on how the dark comedy underlies, and inspires, the crime story. The characters are wonderful, with the horrifying Mony to the Willy Loman-esque Martin, etc. I have only episode 8 left, but I'll be very upset if this is not picked up for more seasons." Another viewer commented: "I thought the story was fantastic. I loved D'arcy Carden's character. Probably because that character is totally opposite of me." A third wrote: "I like it! It's funny, the story is keeping me interested. I guess there's no accounting for taste. There hasn't been a point where I've questioned whether or not I want to continue watching. That's rare for me." Someone else added: "Okay - this show is really fun and addicting. The writing is smart, the jokes hit, the production value is great and the acting blew me away. After all the twists and turns in this story, I'm literally on the edge of my seat --- when is season 2????"
