Tom Hiddleston and Karen Gillan star in The Life of Chuck, a drama based on Stephen King's 2020 novella, now available on Netflix. The film, directed by Mike Flanagan, tells the story of accountant Charles 'Chuck' Krantz in reverse order as the world approaches its end.
The cast also includes Mark Hamill, Jacob Tremblay, Benjamin Pajak, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Mia Sara, Nick Offerman, Annalise Basso and Matthew Lillard. Released in UK cinemas in August, the film has received positive reviews, with an 80% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 293 reviews.
Critics have praised the film, with Awards Radar calling it 'an absolute miracle of a movie and a masterpiece' and Empire Magazine noting its 'brazen sincerity' that might 'shed a life-affirming tear or two'. The Washington Post compared it favourably to King adaptations like Stand By Me and The Shawshank Redemption.
Despite a modest box office gross of $19 million worldwide, the film has been lauded for its emotional depth and Flanagan's direction. Hiddleston also stars in the second season of The Night Manager, airing on BBC One and BBC iPlayer before streaming internationally on Prime Video.
