Bridgerton fans searching for their next period romance fix need look no further than HBO Max, which has just added a steamy new adaptation of Wuthering Heights. The film, directed by Emerald Fennell of Saltburn and Promising Young Woman fame, is now streaming on the platform from Friday, 1st May.
The movie stars Margot Robbie as Cathy Earnshaw and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff in a bold reimagining of Emily Brontë's classic novel. It features an atmospheric soundtrack by pop star Charli XCX, surreal visuals, and provocative sex scenes, earning it a reputation as one of the most controversial mainstream films of the year.
Despite mixed reviews from critics—it holds a 58 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes—the film has become a major box office hit, grossing over $240m (£177m) worldwide. Fans have praised it as an ambitious and alluring reinterpretation, with one calling it a “visual masterpiece” and another describing the chemistry between the leads as “achingly sultry and heartbreaking”.
HBO Max launched in the UK in March and quickly amassed 1.5 million subscribers in its first five days. Sky is offering free subscriptions to the platform with its £24 Ultimate TV bundle, which also includes Netflix, Disney+, discovery+, Hayu, and around 135 channels.
