Noah Centineo, the 29-year-old former Disney Channel star, is reportedly set to take on the iconic role of John Rambo in a prequel to the action franchise. According to Deadline, producers hope to begin shooting the film, titled John Rambo, in Thailand later this year. Centineo will play a younger version of the character made famous by Sylvester Stallone.
Centineo is best known for his leading role in the To All The Boys... romantic comedy franchise and recently starred as a spy in Netflix's The Recruit, which was cancelled earlier this year after two seasons. Speaking at the Los Angeles premiere of his film Warfare, Centineo said of the cancellation: 'You know, it is what it is. Netflix has a certain mandate that they need to fill.' He added that he was 'very proud of the show' and grateful for its 'strong cult following'.
Stallone, 78, played Rambo in five films starting with First Blood in 1982, with the most recent being Rambo: Last Blood in 2019. According to reports, Stallone is not involved in the upcoming prequel but has been made aware that Centineo is attached.
Stallone's most recent film, the action-thriller Alarum, received a critical score of 0 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, making it his lowest-rated film in five decades. The film also holds a 20 percent audience score.
