Sylvester Stallone has signed on as an executive producer for the upcoming prequel 'John Rambo', marking the first time he has produced a film in the franchise. The movie, which is currently filming in Bangkok, Thailand, will explore events before the 1982 classic 'First Blood', with Noah Centineo taking over the titular role.
Directed by Jalmari Helander of 'Sisu' fame, the film is a collaboration between Lionsgate, Millennium Media, and AGBO. Stallone, who wrote the previous five Rambo films and directed the 2008 installment, will not appear on screen. The franchise has grossed over $819 million globally.
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair Adam Fogelson praised Stallone's involvement, stating, 'Sylvester Stallone knows the character of John Rambo better than anyone... His participation is the final, critical piece to John Rambo.' The screenplay was written by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani.
The cast also includes Yao, Jason Tobin, Quincy Isaiah, Jefferson White, and Tayme Thapthimthong. The film is produced by Kevin King Templeton, Les Weldon, Jonathan Yunger, Angela Russo-Otstot, and Michael Disco, with executive producers including Anthony and Joe Russo, Trevor Short, Dallas Sonnier, and Amanda Presmyk.
This project follows a November 2024 deal between Lionsgate and Millennium, which granted Lionsgate rights to develop 'The Expendables' franchise and worldwide distribution rights to 'John Rambo'. The prequel is the sixth instalment in the Rambo series.
