Spider-Man: Brand New Day has grossed one billion US dollars (£742 million) at the global box office in just six days, making it the second-fastest film in history to reach that milestone.
The blockbuster, released on July 31, marks Tom Holland's fourth appearance as Peter Parker. It trails only Avengers: Endgame, which earned $1.22 billion (£906 million) in its opening weekend in 2019.
Box Office Breakdown
The film raked in $355 million (£263 million) in the US and Canada during its opening weekend, plus $572 million (£425 million) internationally. China led overseas sales with $121 million (£90 million).
It also set a record as the fastest film to earn $400 million (£297 million) domestically, achieving that in just four days.
Industry Reactions
Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios president and producer, told Variety: “I did not expect Endgame’s (domestic) record to be beat, but I couldn’t be happier that it was beat this past weekend by our 38th MCU movie.” He added: “It’s overwhelming, frankly, to find ourselves in this position on a Monday morning — in the very best way.”
Record Year for Blockbusters
This is the fourth film of 2026 to cross the billion-dollar mark, following The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Michael, and Toy Story 5. Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, with $922 million (£684 million) so far, is expected to become the fifth soon.
2026 now holds the most billion-dollar films since the pandemic disrupted the industry in 2020. In 2019, a record nine films hit the milestone, but no subsequent year had more than three.
Sony Pictures spent $225 million (£167 million) on production, excluding marketing costs.
