Spice Girls Eye ABBA-Style Hologram Show for 30th

The Spice Girls are reportedly in discussions to create an ABBA-style hologram show to commemorate their 30th anniversary, following the cancellation of their planned reunion tour. Band members Mel B, Geri Horner, Mel C, Emma Bunton, and Victoria Beckham had been negotiating a series of concerts to mark three decades since the release of their debut single, "Wannabe." However, reports from last month indicated that the group could not reach an agreement on a traditional reunion.

Hologram Show Concept

Instead, the group may follow the model of ABBA Voyage, which launched in 2022 and transformed the Swedish band into digital avatars for a spectacular show. The Sun reports that Victoria Beckham expressed enthusiasm for the idea during a recent appearance on SiriusXM radio, stating, "I think it would be a great idea. The principle of it would be great. We were talking about it at dinner, but we'll see." Rumors have also circulated that discussions have been ongoing with their former manager, Simon Fuller.

Simon Fuller's Involvement

A source told the publication, "Simon is desperate to have one last hurrah with the Spice Girls and this is his latest idea. He was the person who came up with the original idea for Abba and their digital show and he thinks this model could work perfectly for the group." The source added, "Simon knows this plan would mean the band would be making money in their sleep and it would open up their music to a whole new generation."

Band History

Victoria last performed with the band during the 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony, having previously joined them on their 2007-08 world tour. Geri left the band in 1998 in the middle of their world tour, on Mel B's birthday, a departure that made headlines worldwide. The group went on hiatus two years later. The Spice Girls shot to fame in 1996 when "Wannabe" reached number one in 37 countries. They achieved nine UK number-one singles and two number-one albums. Geri launched a successful solo career after leaving, with four number-one singles in the UK.

Reunion Plans Scrapped

In March, it was reported that plans for a reunion tour for the anniversary had been scrapped, following news that a Netflix project to celebrate the anniversary had also been cancelled. Sources claimed Geri had been hesitant about signing on. Mel C later confirmed there was no reunion in the works, telling The Smallzy Show on KIIS Radio, "No, there is no reunion. We are communicating all the time. We want to do something – who knows when. But I still feel very optimistic and I keep my fingers crossed that you will see the Spice Girls together at some point in the future." So far, only a collectible coin from the Royal Mint has been announced to mark the anniversary. Daily Mail contacted a representative for The Spice Girls for comment.
