Sandra Bullock stepped out for a touching reunion with her 'Speed' co-star Keanu Reeves at a 30th-anniversary screening in Los Angeles, marking her first major public appearance in over a year. The actress has largely avoided the spotlight since the death of her partner, photographer Bryan Randall, in August 2023.
Bullock joined Reeves and the film's director, Jan de Bont, for the Beyond Fest event on Tuesday, where the trio discussed the 1994 action thriller. The mother of two has not attended major public events since Randall's passing, having stepped back from Hollywood to focus on her children.
Randall, whom Bullock began dating in 2015, died after a private battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). While Bullock has not publicly commented on his death, her sister, Gesine Bullock-Prado, shared a tribute on Instagram, praising Bullock's care for Randall and acknowledging the cruelty of the disease.
During the Q&A session, Reeves recalled the making of the film, saying, "We knew we were doing something wacky." Bullock, reflecting on her early career, added, "I was behind the wheel wanting everyone to be safe. It was special." De Bont expressed pride in the actors, saying, "The relationship that those two created together is absolutely amazing. And seeing it back on the screen tonight, it was so real. They were absolutely perfect."
'Speed', which grossed over $350 million worldwide, follows a police officer who must keep a bomb-laden bus above 50 miles per hour to prevent an explosion. The reunion marks a rare return to the public eye for Bullock, who previously said she would pause on-camera work and wanted to be present at home.
