Rising star Sadie Sink has playfully hinted that the intense fan speculation surrounding her mysterious role in the upcoming Spider-Man 4 film might be on the wrong track, specifically pointing out that a character's hair colour is not a definitive clue.
Fan Theories Running Wild
In a new interview, the 23-year-old actor addressed the whirlwind of online rumours that have attempted to piece together her character's identity, largely based on glimpses of her red hair on set. Her casting was first reported in March by Deadline, confirming she would join Tom Holland's Peter Parker in the new instalment, titled Brand New Day.
Marvel Studios has maintained complete radio silence on who Sink will be portraying, leaving a vacuum quickly filled by eager fans. Theories have ranged from the telekinetic X-Men powerhouse Jean Grey to allies like Rachel Cole-Alves or even the feline burglar Black Cat, Felicia Hardy.
"A lot of people forget that hair colour can change, but yeah, I understand all of the theories," Sink told Entertainment Weekly, cleverly pouring cold water on the most popular assumptions. She added, "People will just have to wait and see. I’m excited for all of it to maybe be put to rest."
A Career on the Rise
Sink, who shot to global fame playing Max Mayfield in the Netflix phenomenon Stranger Things, is making significant moves in her career. Beyond her entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she is also set to make her West End debut in London next spring.
She will star opposite Noah Jupe in Robert Icke's production of Romeo & Juliet, marking a return to her theatre roots which began on Broadway in Annie. This theatrical prowess was recently recognised with a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Play for her role in John Proctor is the Villain.
In a poignant reflection, Sink also recently discussed filming the final season of Stranger Things, describing it as an emotional experience akin to "saying goodbye to your childhood."
Looking to the Future
Alongside her acting endeavours, Sink is branching out into producing for the first time with the film adaptation of John Proctor Is The Villain. She emphasised her genuine interest in the role, stating she doesn't want to just "slap her name" on a project but truly learn the craft from the ground up.
As for her Marvel future, it appears this is just the beginning. Reports suggest Sink will reprise her Spider-Man 4 role in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars, which is scheduled to begin filming next year. For now, fans will have to endure the suspense as the actor keeps her cards close to her chest.
