Robert Downey Jr is set to reprise his role as Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, for the first time in seven years since Avengers: Endgame. The Oscar-winning actor's return was revealed in a new behind-the-scenes trailer unveiled this weekend at D23's presentation of Avengers Infinity Defense.
Iron Man's Return in Avengers Doomsday
Downey Jr will appear as Iron Man in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, set for release this Christmas. He will be joined by Marvel co-stars Iman Vellani as Ms Marvel, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, and Chris Hemsworth as Thor.
The trailer showcases footage shot at Pinewood Studios in England, where the cast is also filming Avengers: Secret Wars. While the plot remains under wraps, it appears to be a multiverse adventure involving King Thanos, a variant who succeeded in his conquest. The presence of Stark and Mackie's Captain America suggests a non-canon story or one set in an alternate universe.
New Disneyland Ride Features Iron Man
In addition to the film, Downey Jr will also play Iron Man in a new Disneyland California Adventure ride called Stark Flight Lab at Avengers Campus. The ride will feature two-person "gyro-kinetic pods" that roll along a track before stopping in front of a giant robot arm, simulating flight training as an Avenger.
According to Disney, riders will experience high-speed maneuvers inspired by Iron Man, whirling around in a simulated flight. Mackie's Captain America and Brie Larson's Captain Marvel will also be featured in the ride.
Rumors of Iron Man in Avengers Secret Wars
There are also rumors that Downey Jr will return as Iron Man in Avengers: Secret Wars, potentially battling himself as Doctor Doom, a role he is also set to play in the MCU.
