The first trailer for Zach Cregger's new Resident Evil movie has been released, and it's giving fans hope. The trailer teases a tense narrative that pays clever homage to the games, winning over purists who have been let down by previous film adaptations.
Standalone Story in Raccoon City
This second attempt at rebooting the franchise on the big screen is a standalone story set in the world of Raccoon City, featuring the T-Virus and Umbrella Corporation. Cregger co-wrote the film with John Wick 3 screenwriter Shay Hatten.
Starring Austin Abrams
Austin Abrams plays the lead role of Bryan, a medical courier caught in a viral outbreak of infected monsters. The trailer shows him trying to ward off a zombie while encountering classic Resident Evil problems, such as missing a lock and wasting limited ammo.
Fan Praise on Reddit
Fans on Reddit have praised the trailer. One wrote: "I'm at the very least sold on the pitch that it's a movie that feels like playing a survival horror game. Like the scene where missing the lock wastes his limited ammo is a good translation of the genre between mediums."
