Ralph Ineson, the British actor known for playing Finchy in the UK version of The Office, has revealed that his preparation for the role of Galactus in Marvel's Fantastic Four: First Steps led to a minor disagreement with his wife. The 55-year-old actor will portray the cosmic entity in the upcoming MCU film, a character created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1966.
Ineson told Empire that to get into Galactus's headspace, he had to think large. This included driving through the Mont Blanc tunnels in the Alps and “imagining that was his windpipe and his trachea.” He also visited tall buildings, such as the Gherkin in London, where he spent most of a wedding reception staring out and ruminating. His wife was not impressed, telling him, “You’ve got to say hello to the bride and groom at some point!”
Galactus, a cosmic entity that consumes planets' life forces, has only appeared in one previous film, the 2007 Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, where he was depicted as a CGI cloud—a version poorly received by fans. Ineson joins a star-studded cast including Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, and Joseph Quinn as Human Torch. Julia Garner will play Silver Surfer, and John Malkovich has an undisclosed role.
Ineson is also known for roles in Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, and The Witch. Fantastic Four: First Steps is scheduled for release on 25 July 2025.
