Robert Pattinson's Secret Cameo in Timothée Chalamet's 'Marty Supreme' Revealed
Pattinson's secret role in Chalamet film revealed

In a surprising revelation, filmmaker Josh Safdie has confirmed that actor Robert Pattinson played a secret, uncredited role in the acclaimed sports drama Marty Supreme, which stars Timothée Chalamet.

The Hidden Easter Egg

Speaking at an event at London's BFI Southbank on Tuesday, Safdie told the audience that Pattinson, 39, provided the voice for an unseen character. According to the director, the Twilight star is the voice of the commentator and umpire during the British Open ping pong semifinals scene near the film's start.

The match features Chalamet's character, Marty Mauser, against Hungarian champion Bela Kletzki, played by Géza Röhrig. Safdie described the casting as a "little easter egg" that almost nobody knew about. He explained the spontaneous decision, saying, "He came and watched some stuff and I was like, I don't know any British people. So he's the umpire."

A History of Collaboration

This is not the first time Pattinson has worked with Safdie. The pair previously collaborated on the 2017 crime thriller Good Time, which Safdie co-directed with his brother Benny. That film featured Pattinson in a leading role as a criminal desperately trying to free his brother.

Safdie also shared an anecdote about first meeting Timothée Chalamet at the premiere afterparty for Good Time. He recalled an agent introducing him to the young actor as "the next superstar," which Safdie admitted was a "red flag." He described Chalamet as having "wide eyes" and a "supreme vision of himself," dubbing him "Timmy Supreme" in that moment.

Chalamet's performance in Call Me by Your Name (2017) later inspired Safdie to write Marty Supreme specifically with him in mind. The director praised Chalamet as a "movie star" and an "intense dreamer."

Awards Success and Future Projects

The revelation comes on the heels of significant awards success for the film. Earlier this week, Timothée Chalamet won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for his role in Marty Supreme. This victory has positioned him as a strong contender for the Best Actor Oscar at this year's Academy Awards, which would mark his third nomination.

Looking ahead, Pattinson and Chalamet are set to share the screen again in the highly anticipated Dune: Part Three, scheduled for release on 18 December 2026. In that film, Pattinson will take on the villainous role of Scytale, a shapeshifter who plots against Chalamet's Paul Atreides.

Marty Supreme, distributed by A24, boasts a notable cast including Gwyneth Paltrow, rapper Tyler, the Creator, Odessa A'zion, and Shark Tank's Kevin O'Leary. The film tells the story of an aspiring table tennis champion.
