Netflix viewers have been left 'glued' to their screens by the action crime drama series 'The Brothers Sun', which stars Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh and has been hailed as a 'hidden gem' by fans.
The show, which premiered in January 2024, blends Taiwanese criminal underworld elements with western suburban life, juxtaposing the country's traditions with US immigrant experiences. This unique cultural mix has struck a chord with many viewers.
Cast and Plot
Michelle Yeoh stars as the mother of the Sun brothers, alongside Justin Chien as Charles Sun and Sam Song Li as Bruce Sun. The cast is comprised largely of fresh faces on the small screen.
The storyline centres on Bruce Sun, who believes himself to be an ordinary Californian until his brother Charles arrives from Taipei, Taiwan. Charles has fled after a botched attempt to assassinate his crime boss father and has travelled to LA to watch over his family and ensure their protection.

Since its debut, TV fans continue to discover and praise the eight-part series online. One Rotten Tomatoes review says: "As a big martial arts and action movie fan I absolutely loved this series. It has a phenomenal soundtrack, creative characters, and a plot line that keeps you guessing, which is rare."

Cancellation Despite Praise
Despite the positive reception, the show was not renewed for a second season. The announcement was formally made by Deadline in March 2024, merely two months after the series launched, suggesting it hadn't achieved sufficient popularity. Fans have been vocal about their disappointment, with one saying: "This was a total hidden gem. The best series I have seen in a long while, I was so looking forward to a second season. Only to discover it's cancelled. Netflix you are nuts to cancel this, it was so good."
