Narvik war film scores 100% on Rotten Tomatoes

The Norwegian war drama Narvik, now streaming on Netflix, has earned a rare 100% Rotten Tomatoes critic score for its portrayal of the 1940 Battles of Narvik. Directed by Erik Skjoldbjærg, the film depicts the two-month siege of the Norwegian port town, a vital supply route for Adolf Hitler's war effort, and a major turning point in World War Two.

A Historic Turning Point

The battles unfolded between 9 April and 8 June 1940, marking Hitler's initial tactical military setback. The film has been described as "authentic" and "real" by viewers, with one IMDb reviewer calling it a "Well made historically accurate movie."

The reviewer added: "Movie seemed quite realistic, Norwegian scenery was beautiful and I loved the multiple points of view during a battle; that of a soldier, a civilian hiding in the bunker, spies and politician."

Audience and Critic Reactions

Another reviewer noted: "The action scenes were actually very fulfilling when viewed from a wider lens. The individual tactics are not as in depth but it does a good job depicting the scene as a whole."

A third added: "Narvik doesn't bring out the bloodlust of the Nazi expansionism in the usual terror inducing manner. Instead the story describes how human lives were overlooked by both sides and the real terror of the lives captured between war."

Narvik is now available to stream on Netflix.
