Actress Kristen Stewart made a dramatic style statement as she led the arrivals at The IndieWire Honours Winter Film Awards in Los Angeles on Thursday. The former Twilight star, 35, accepted the prestigious Maverick Award and used the platform to showcase a radical new punk-inspired hairstyle, turning heads on the red carpet.
Stewart's Striking Style Transformation
All eyes were on Kristen Stewart as she debuted her bold new look. Her signature dark hair was styled in a ponytail with short, choppy bangs and a sharp undercut – a dramatic departure from her usual aesthetic. Her fashion choices were equally attention-grabbing.
She wore a pair of sheer white Calvin Klein leggings with a vest that revealed knickers underneath, layering the ensemble with a black satin oversized blazer and matching stilettos. She completed the look with a silver chain necklace and tinted sunglasses, cementing her status as a fashion risk-taker.
A Night Honouring Film's Mavericks
The ceremony celebrated various talents across the film industry. Actor Jacob Elordi was honoured with the Wavelength Award, sharing the accolade with prosthetics artist Mike Hill for their work on The Creature in Guillermo del Toro's upcoming Frankenstein adaptation.
Elordi looked dapper in a brown short-collared leather jacket, paper-bag pants, a white shirt, and a red patterned tie. Comedy legend Adam Sandler received the Vanguard Award, keeping his attire casual in a white zip-up sweatshirt with colourful stripes, brown corduroy pants, and trainers, attending with his wife Jackie.
Other winners included actress Chase Infiniti, who accepted the Breakthrough Award in a glamorous blush pink satin co-ord set. German actress Nina Hoss, recipient of the Spotlight Award, wore a sheer high-neck black gown, while South Korean singer-songwriter Ejae accepted the Spark Award in a light blue silk gown.
Stewart's Fiery Advocacy for Women in Film
The event came just weeks after Kristen Stewart delivered a passionate and angry keynote speech at the Academy Women's Luncheon in LA, where she lamented the lack of progress for women in Hollywood since the #MeToo and Time's Up movements.
"I'm so angry," Stewart declared during her seven-minute address, stating that the "backsliding from a brief moment of progress is statistically devastating." She criticised the "bare-knuckle brawling" required for women to tell unfiltered stories and highlighted the pitifully low number of films made by women in the past year.
She stressed the need for women to support each other, saying, "We need to become ladies who lunch all the f***ing time," while rejecting tokenism in the industry. Stewart attended that event with her now-wife, Dylan Meyer, whom she married on April 20 after six years of dating.
The IndieWire Honours, therefore, served not only as a celebration of cinematic achievement but also as a platform for Stewart and others to showcase their artistry and continue advocating for meaningful change behind the camera.
