Keanu Reeves is officially returning as the legendary hitman John Wick, but not in a new film. Instead, he will lend his likeness and voice to a big-budget, untitled video game set years before the events of the first movie.
The game was announced during a PlayStation State of Play livestream, with a trailer focusing on third-person gameplay and the series' signature 'gun-fu' combat. At the end, Reeves' face was revealed, confirming his involvement. He is also involved in production alongside franchise director Chad Stahelski.
Developed by Saber Interactive, known for World War Z and the upcoming Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remaster, the game will feature a mix of established and new characters. Saber CEO Matthew Karch said, 'John Wick is one of the most iconic characters in action film history. Saber is honored to be working alongside Chad, Keanu and the Lionsgate team in a true collaboration to bring the world of Wick to life in a AAA game.'
Lionsgate's Jenefer Brown added, 'I can't wait for fans to step into the shoes of John Wick and explore the multi-dimensional world of The High Table.' The game is set for release on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S.
This is not the franchise's first foray into gaming, following crossovers with Payday 2, Fortnite, and Call of Duty, as well as a VR game and a tactical RPG. Other future projects include a film focused on the character Caine, directed by and starring Donnie Yen, though Reeves will not appear.
