John Barrowman has announced the death of his mother, Marion Barrowman, at the age of 91. The Doctor Who actor shared the news on social media, saying he is 'devastated' and that his family is 'heartbroken'. Marion died peacefully at home on Sunday, with her husband of 74 years by her side.
Barrowman, 59, said he and his husband Scott were still on a plane travelling home when they were told the news. He cancelled all upcoming shows and appearances to be with his family. In a heartfelt tribute, he described his mother as 'strong, funny, loving, glamorous, and unforgettable'.
The actor recalled how Marion adored his showbiz lifestyle and was a fierce advocate for love and equality. He shared a memory of her reaction to potential protests at his wedding in Cardiff: 'Let them try — I’ll batter them with my Chanel handbag.' Barrowman said she embraced Scott as a son from the very beginning.
Fans and celebrity friends, including Alan Carr and Bonnie Langford, sent condolences. Barrowman concluded: 'Losing your mum changes the world completely. My dad has lost the love of his life, and our family has lost its heart.'
