James Bond casting reaches final stages with screen tests

The search for the next James Bond is reportedly entering its final phase, with screen tests for the role scheduled to take place in London this weekend.

According to Deadline, Callum Turner of One Night Only, Jack Lowden from Slow Horses, and The Crown's Josh O'Connor are among those in contention for the screen tests, which could begin as early as Friday.

The Hollywood Reporter has stated that, contrary to earlier speculation, Euphoria actor Jacob Elordi and Sinners star Jack O'Connell are not among those auditioning for the part.

Screen Test Components

It is understood that the screen tests will consist of three elements: stunts, camera presence, and dialogue.

The selected actor will succeed Daniel Craig, who first played Bond in Casino Royale (2006) and concluded his tenure after his fifth film, No Time To Die (2021).

Producers' Approach

Amy Pascal, who will produce the next Bond film, told Deadline earlier this year about the casting process: "I would say (an announcement by) the end of the year is a good bet.

"We are being really, really methodical. Having worked with (producer) Barbara Broccoli at the studio, I mean, Daniel Craig is a hard act to follow.

"And it's got to be something really different that is stirring, exciting and different."

Next Film Details

The next Bond film, currently untitled, will be directed by Dune's Denis Villeneuve, with Harry Potter producer David Heyman working alongside Pascal on the project.

Representatives for Turner, Lowden, O'Connor and Amazon Studios have been contacted for comment.
