ITV has confirmed that filming has officially wrapped on its upcoming four-part drama 'Mavis Eccleston', starring Dame Penelope Wilton. The series tells the harrowing true story of a woman who survived a suicide pact with her husband of 60 years and was subsequently accused of his murder.
Star-Studded Cast
Dame Penelope Wilton, known for 'Downton Abbey', plays Mavis Eccleston, alongside Sir Jonathan Pryce as her husband Dennis. The cast also includes Sian Brooke from 'Blue Lights' and Chris Reilly from 'Call the Midwife' as their children, Joy and Kevin. Jill Halfpenny and Darrell D'Silva portray their partners, Tracey and Kenton.

ITV shared a photo of the four stars on set with a clapperboard, captioned: "That's a wrap on filming for Mavis Eccleston." The caption described the drama as "based on a heartbreaking true story" following a couple whose plan to end their lives together ended in tragedy, with one subsequently facing a murder trial. It is coming soon to ITV and ITVX.
The True Story
The official description reveals that the couple made the heartbreaking decision when Dennis was diagnosed with terminal cancer. At 81, he declined treatment to avoid prolonging his suffering, having had cancer twice before. Their adult children, Kevin and Joy, desperately tried to dissuade them from taking a lethal cocktail of medication, but the couple remained steadfast in their belief to leave the world together.
Creative Team
The series is written by acclaimed screenwriter Chris Lang, creator of ITV's 'Unforgotten'. Each episode will be directed by BAFTA-winning Bruce Goodison, with Kate Cook producing. 'Mavis Eccleston' will air on ITV, STV, and be available on ITVX and STV Player soon.
