Happy Gilmore 2 has finally landed on Netflix, with Adam Sandler reprising his role as the boisterous ex-hockey player turned unconventional golfer. The sequel, almost 30 years in the making, follows Happy after an unforeseen tragedy as he returns to golf to support his daughter Vienna (played by Sunny Sandler) in her dance aspirations.
Adam Sandler, now 58, has become a Hollywood comedy icon with hits such as The Wedding Singer and Grown Ups, and earned acclaim for dramatic roles in Uncut Gems and Hustle. He has been married to Jacqueline Sandler since 2003, and their daughters Sadie and Sunny appear in the sequel.
Christopher McDonald returns as Shooter McGavin; he has appeared in films including Thelma & Louise and Requiem for a Dream. Julie Bowen, who played Virginia Venit, became a household name as Claire Dunphy on Modern Family, winning two Primetime Emmys. She filed for divorce in 2018 after 14 years of marriage.
Frances Bay, who played Happy's grandmother, died in 2011 aged 92 from pneumonia. Richard Kiel, who played Mr Larson, died in 2014 aged 74 from heart disease. Neither appears in the sequel. Allen Covert reprises his role as Otto; he has been a frequent Sandler collaborator and producer.
