Greg Davies, known for his role as the sadistic Mr Gilbert in The Inbetweeners, has made a playful vow amid growing speculation about a third spin-off film. The 57-year-old actor and comedian jokingly warned of 'consequences for several individuals' if he is not included in the upcoming project.
A Decade After the Last Film
The creators of the hit teenage sitcom, Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, are reportedly in the final stages of a multimillion-pound deal with Netflix to produce a third film. This comes more than ten years after the second movie grossed $64 million (£47 million) worldwide. The first film, released in 2011, earned an impressive $88 million (£65 million).
Davies, who played the formidable headteacher Mr Gilbert across all three series and both films, expressed his enthusiasm in a recent interview. 'God, I hope they do [make a third film],' he said. 'I'd be so excited. If I'm not in it there'll be consequences for several individuals.'
The Cast Then and Now
The original cast members—Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, Blake Harrison, and James Buckley—are now in their 40s. However, reports suggest they are all willing to reprise their roles as the teenage friends for the third installment. Mr Gilbert, who served as the head of sixth form, ended the second film in a relationship with Will McKenzie's mother, played by Belinda Stewart-Wilson.
Davies, a former drama teacher for 13 years, has drawn on his teaching experiences to shape his character. 'I would find it very hard to believe that we're not going to see fairly similar characters,' he told The Times. 'All three series and both films, honestly, it can't have been more than three weeks' work for me but people still shout, 'Gilbert!' at me in the street on a near daily basis.'
Netflix Deal and Future Plans
The deal with Netflix is believed to include not only the main cast but also Emily Atack, who played Charlotte Hinchcliffe, and the parents of the lads, including Belinda Stewart-Wilson as Polly McKenzie. However, Joe Thomas, who played Simon Cooper, has expressed some reservations. 'Wisdom does not make a very good narrative,' he said. 'The Inbetweeners is full of characters who are delusional.'
Despite the passage of time, fans remain eager for a return to the world of The Inbetweeners, and Davies' cheeky threat has only added to the excitement.
