Critics have noted that the film closely follows the template set by 'Bridget Jones's Diary', but fails to capture its charm. The narration borrows heavily from Bridget's distinctive speech patterns, yet without the diary device, the effect falls flat. The humour derived from pratfalls and workplace mishaps also misses the mark.
A key issue raised is the film's dated portrayal of a 30-year-old woman. In 2025, the character's lament about being a decade older than most singles feels out of touch, as societal norms around age and relationships have shifted significantly since the 1990s.
